Creative Media Level 3 Certificate at Woodcote High School

Course description

Level 3 Certificate is designed to build on the knowledge and skills learned in a related Level 3 qualification. These qualifications develop the workplace related skills and knowledge a learner needs to progress in their chosen area of employment and prepares them to carry out a job at a professional level. A Level 3 Diploma is equivalent to two A Levels.

Course content

This course is suitable for anyone that wishes to pursue a career path into Graphic Design, Graphic Products, Advertising, Publishing and Art & Design. On this course you will be equipped with the skills you need to continue on this career path. This course supports students who study Art and ICT at A Level and those who achieved high levels at GCSE. With a range of design scenarios students can tailor their studies to support their strengths alongside building new skills.

The NCFE Level 3 in Creative Media (Graphic Design) compliments the GCSE Graphic Products course that Woodcote High School offers in Years 10 and 11; it is also an ideal course for those that have studied Art and Design previously. This course allows students to fully explore a range of diverse graphic skills that allows them to progress successfully onto the next steps in their education or employment. Over the two-year course, students will fully engage and develop their skills to the highest standard and produce a portfolio of evidence that will be internally and externally assessed by NCFE. To be awarded the NCFE Level 3 Diploma in Creative Media, learners are required to successfully complete the three mandatory units and three optional units. To be awarded the NCFE Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media, learners are required to successfully complete an additional three optional units.

These qualifications consist of:
Three graded mandatory units -
Unit 01 Collaboration in the creative sector (10 credits)
Unit 02 Entrepreneurial skills (10 credits)
Unit 03 Plan and produce work to a commercial brief (10 credits)

And seven graded optional units -
Unit 04 Packaging and label design (10 credits)
Unit 05 Typography and layout within graphic design (10 credits)
Unit 06 Vector and pixel-based images (10 credits)
Unit 07 Advertising within graphic design (10 credits)
Unit 08 Branding within graphic design (10 credits)
Unit 09 Graphic illustration (10 credits)
Unit 10 Photo imaging techniques (10 credits)

Entry requirements

Students should have a C in English and Maths and a C or C equivalent in Art and Design or Graphic Products
