Art & Design Level 2 Diploma at Heart of Worcestershire College

Course description

Are you a budding artist who has a keen interest in art and design? Could you see yourself as the next Picasso? Would you like to further develop your existing skills and explore and experiment with a range of art and design disciplines? Then our Diploma in Art and Design, Level 2, is the perfect opportunity for you to put your passion for art and design into practice. 

Using our specialist design studios and computer suites, at either our Bromsgrove or Worcester campuses, you’ll spend your time studying a range of disciplines including; Drawing, Painting, Graphics, 3D Design, Fashion, Textiles as well as looking at the work of other artists, designers and cultures.

All learners will take part in an end of year exhibition.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs A-D including level 1 in a related subject area and either maths, English language or level 1 functional skills equivalent. Entry will be subject to a satisfactory reference.


You will be continually assessed throughout your course at the end of each project. You will build up a portfolio of work that will include sketchbooks, design sheets, written work, samples, models and final outcomes.

Future opportunities

This course will open up opportunities to continue studying art and design subjects and to progress to a higher Level 3 course.

You may wish to progress to any of our Extended Diploma Level 3 options. If you don’t want to continue studying, then you may want to progress into creative arts based careers such as studio assistants and retail work in the areas of print and reprographics, arts and crafts, photography, textiles and garment making or continue with your own artwork.

      Always dreamed of being on stage? Look no further, our Performing Arts department boasts a professionally equipped theatre in St. Andrews' building with a state-of-the-art computerised lighting system, sound systems and multiple stages and seating positioning, giving you a platform to showcase your talent. As a Performing Arts student you will have the chance to participate in a variety of productions throughout the year. 

      The View

      Feeling peckish? The View is a place for you to grab a coffee, stop for a light snack or sit down for a full meal. It boasts a vast and ever-changing menu of freshly prepared snacks, meals, soups and cakes made by our Chefs and catering students. Looking out over the River Severn, The View is the place in college to meet friends over coffee, relax with a book over cake, or sit down for some enjoyable, wholesome, home-cooked food without any of the effort of cooking or preparing it yourself.


      Make time for a milky latte and visit our Starbucks counter in The View. We have the only one in Worcester City Centre! So come sit back, warm up and relax with a cappuccino, or even grab a berry frappe to go!


      Our nurseries provide a happy, secure and stimulating place where learning through play is purposeful and fun! Our bright and spacious nurseries offer a wide range of flexible childcare for children aged 3 months to 5 years old. The nurseries are recognised as 'outstanding' by Ofsted who also praised the training received by staff, and the atmosphere that the children enjoy.

      St Dunstan's

      St Dunstan's is a state-of-the-art building dedicated to our creative arts and hair and beauty provision in Worcester. Short-listed for the prestigious AJ Retrofit Awards, this modern building is home to our hair and beauty salon, art and design studios and coffee shop making it the perfect place for students to explore their creative side. Our hair and beauty salon, Fountains is open to members of the public.
