English Literature A Level at Northallerton School & Sixth Form College

Course description

This is a two year course during which you will follow units of work based on a selection of novels, poetry and drama. The texts will be studied in depth and will cover the period from Shakespeare right upto the 21st century.


Course content

 A variety of teaching and learning styles are employed, including whole class discussion, small group work, research followed by feedback and presentations. visual response to tasks. homework essays and timed practice essays. The teaching style and emphasis throughout the course is on drawing ideas from students and making suggestions to help their understanding rather than on formal lecturing.


Entry requirements

Students will expected to have achieved at least a grade 6 in GCSE English or have demonstrated an aptitude for the subject.

Future opportunities

A level literature is considered to be a facilitating A level, meaning it can open many doors regarding your future choices. Those students who go onto study English at University might well be looking for a career in journalism, teaching, law, management or research, but really the opportunities are endless
