Further Maths at Adams' Grammar School
Students with a particularly strong interest in and aptitude for Mathematics are encouraged to take a second A Level in further Maths. It offers students an excellent opportunity to study a great deal of more demanding pure mathematics modules and some additional applied modules in Mechanics and Statistics.
The course complements and builds upon the A level Mathematics course.
Topics such as complex numbers, matrices, more advanced proof, solution of first and second order differential calculus, Maclaurin and Taylor series, polar coordinates, hyperbolic functions, reduction formulae and vector equations for planes are amongst the additional pure material covered.
Also students develop their understanding of applied Mathematics to a much greater degree than those only studying Mathematics A level.
For Further Mathematics an A* at GCSE is expected. we also prefer students to have taken either the Free standing Additional Mathematics qualification or to have previously studied some AS Level Mathematics in Year 11.
Students taking Further mathematics must also take mathematics at A level.
The exam board is Edexcel. Syllabus Further Mathematics AS/A2 Level GCE Code: 8372/9372
