Business Skills with Entrepreneurship BTEC Extended Certificate Level 2 at The Manchester College

Course description

Whether you want to set up your own company, help develop a family business, or oversee a department in a large corporation, you’ll need the same employability skills and knowledge of the business world to succeed. That’s where this course can help! You’ll learn all about how businesses are created and structured, and the impact of different ownership models on both individual departments and the business as a whole. We’ll help you explore all the skills and techniques required to effectively manage a business, from tracking spending and income to overseeing resources and deciding where they should be allocated. Alongside all of this, you’ll be developing a number of interpersonal skills and qualities that will help you in whatever career path you choose, including providing excellent customer service, being organised and working with others. You can earn either a Level 2 Certificate or Extended Certificate, depending on the number of units you take, and you’ll get the chance to work with large, well respected businesses in Manchester on special projects.

Entry requirements

For this certificate, we ask that you have at least 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, with one of those in English or Maths. Due to Government changes to grading systems for GCSES in 16/17, please follow the below link to see specific entry criteria for school leavers School Leaver Entry Requirements


Throughout the year, you’ll be assessed in a variety of different ways to check you’re developing all the appropriate business skills you’ll need. This will include role plays, presentations, project-driven practical assignments and written reports. You’ll also have to complete two external examinations.

The next step after completing this Level 2 Certificate would be to develop your skills further and advance onto a Level 3 programme with us at The Manchester College. You could choose from a range of related subjects with a focus in business, including marketing, law, finance and innovation! Each of these courses will continue to give you the knowledge and abilities you need to succeed in whichever job you want, from working in administration or retail to managing your own company.     • North Manchester Sixth Form is a friendly, vibrant sixth form centre offering courses for school leavers. There are a wide range of courses to choose from, including acting, medical sciences, childcare, business, film production and forensics. The comfortable, environmentally friendly site is made up of a bright modern building and the restored Harpurhey Baths. There is plenty of space to socialise and a large garden. Many of the facilities at North Manchester Sixth Form are open to the community.

      Harpurhey Baths is a Grade II listed building and part of North Manchester Sixth Form. The college has transformed the building into an award-winning exhibition space for students and the community.

      Facilities at North Manchester Sixth Form include:

      Local area

      North Manchester Sixth Form is in Harpurhey, a suburb three miles north of central Manchester. There are a large market, supermarket, shops, fast food chains and a post office nearby. North Manchester Sixth Form is close to Queens Park and Boggart Hole Clough, large community parks hosting events throughout the year. Queens Park has a children’s playground. North City Family and Fitness Centre is five minutes’ walk away and has a health suite and swimming pool.
