Course description

This course is recognised as being very intellectually demanding and requires hard work and dedication as it must be taken alongside the (AS) A Level Mathematics course.It is designed for students who potentially want to go on and study Mathematics at undergraduate level; indeed many universities insist upon Further Mathematics as an entry requirement for Mathematics courses.The course expands upon much of the Pure Mathematics in the standard A Level and introduces many more new concepts and ideas. Students will also use and apply discrete mathematical techniques to solve/optimise real-life problems encountered in many fields of industry. During the course you will study:Series; complex numbers; numerical solution of equations; coordinate systems, matrix algebra, proof.Algorithms, graphs, networks, critical path analysis, linear programming, simplex tableaux, transportation and allocation problems, flows in networks and dynamic programming.The modules are Further Pure Mathematics (FPI) and Decision Mathematics 1 and 2.
