ESOL - The ESOL Bridging Programme (English for Speakers of Other Languages) (for students aged 14-16) at Wakefield College
Designed for students whose first language is not English, this course will give students an opportunity to improve all aspects of their English including speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students will also have the opportunity to take mathematics,
personal and social development and employability skills alongside their English classes.
The course covers all aspects of the English Language and you’ll study a range of interesting and engaging topics such as holidays and travel, education, hobbies and free time. You’ll also develop your skills in grammar, vocabulary building, conversation,
pronunciation, reading, and writing through detailed practice.
No formal entry qualifications but you should show you’re prepared to give your full commitment to the course
You’ll have an initial ESOL assessment before you join the course to make sure you’re put in the appropriate group at a level suitable for you.
A basic level of English is required in all skills and this will be assessed during your interview.
You’ll be assessed through classroom assessments, practice exams, regular homework, tutorials, and external tests.

After finishing this course, students either move on to employment opportunities with greater confidence in their language skills or progress to other courses that we offer.
