Physical Education at Kettering Buccleuch Academy

Course content

This course is specifically suitable for students who have a very keen interest in physical activity and the world of sport. All students will be able to gain a GCSE qualification. There are two parts to the course: (1) Practical Activities (60% of the course) Students must choose four sports that they wish to specialise and be examined in. One of these four sports must be either ATHLETICS, TRAMPOLINING or FITNESS so students must be enthusiastic about improving their performance in one of them. In addition we cover a variety of games. 2) Theory (40% of the course) This section focuses on Exercise and Training, Safety Aspects of Sport , Systems of the body and sports injuries.

Assessment

1)  Student performance in these four sports is worth 50% of the final mark (25% through continuous assessment and 25% in a final examination). Students are also assessed on their ability to ‘analyse performance’(10% of final mark).  2)  Theory (40%) Assessment:   1 hour 45 minute written paper.
