Geography A-Level at The Coleshill School

Course description

This is an exciting and demanding course. Clearly, it is diverse in nature. All of the units relate to the world we live in. These units are issues that governments have to tackle around the world today and in the future. Can you make a difference? Do you care? Do you have an opinion?

In terms of future routes of study or employment are concerned, ‘The World is Your Oyster’ Accountancy, Business, Environment, Industry, Public Services are just a few. Every job is affected by decisions made by you, councils, businesses and governments. University degrees in both academic Geography and Vocational Geography are available post 19. All doors are open.

Course content

Units covered in A Level Geography include

  1. (AS) Physical and Human – River Floods, Cold Environment, Population Change, Energy Issues,
  2. Geographical skills,
  3. (A2) Contemporary Issues, Natural Hazards, Weather and Climate,
  4. Geographical Issue Evaluation, Skills based exam.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements to A Level Courses are 5 A* to C grades at GCSE including English and Maths.

Subject Specific

Grade C or above is preferred at GCSE Geography is preferred



Unit 1 is assessed by a 2 hour examination (35%) and Unit 2 by a 60 minute examination (15%) 


Unit 3 is assessed by a 30 minute examination (30%) and Unit 4 is a 90 minute examination (20%)
