Mandarin Chinese, a language spoken by nearly one third of the world population, is becoming the business and economic language of the world in recent years.

By studying A-level Mandarin Chinese you will become familiar with the fascinating culture and language of this historic and diverse country.

The knowledge and understanding of Chinese language and culture will be invaluable in your future studies and will give you the edge in your career.

Course assessment:

A-level Chinese examinations are divided equally between listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Entry requirements:

This course is mainly available to native Mandarin or Cantonese speakers.

Progression opportunities:

This course will strengthen your understanding of the Chinese language, culture and the modern society. It will be very useful in careers such as politics, tourism, business, marketing and hospitality.

Commitment, enthusiasm and a willingness to participate are prerequisites for any language course.

These combined with a good GCSE grade (minimum of a B grade in the language you wish to study) will provide an excellent springboard for future language learning and a valuable AS and/or A2 qualification.

An understanding of the Chinese language, culture and business methodology is becoming an essential part of many business operations. Many companies operate in the Chinese market including finance, engineering, computing, manufacturing and travel. Many universities are offering the study of Chinese independently or with a combined degree.
