MATHEMATICS GCE AS LEVEL (OCR) at Durham Johnston Comprehensive School

Course description

AS Level units: The course consists of three units: two of Pure Mathematics (C1 and C2) and one of Statistics (S1). The Pure Mathematics units provide the essential knowledge and skills in Calculus and Algebra. The Calculus course looks at functions, graphs and the techniques of differentiation and integration, whilst the Algebra course covers topics such as equations, series and trigonometry. The Statistics module extends many of the ideas introduced at GCSE including the calculation of probabilities and the investigation of bivariate data (scatter diagrams).

Future opportunities

You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Mathematics, which could lead onto higher education in areas of Mathematics, related areas such as Engineering, Economics, Physics or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to Mathematics such as an Accountant, Engineer, Financial Adviser or Teacher. You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
