Maths A Level at Acton High School

Course description

Students will have the opportunity to study different topics within Mathematics, namely: Mechanics, Statistics and Core Maths. The courses are geared to preparing students to tackle both practical and theoretical problems, through a combination of investigative based tasks, ICT, website based activities (Maths net) and text book exercises. Students will see how Maths, in its many forms, can be related to and used in the real world.

AS Level

Core 1, 33.3% of AS (16.67% of A Level)
Core 2, 33.3% of AS (16.67% of A Level)
Statistics 1, 33.3% of AS (16.67% of A Level)

All assessed by written examination (1 hr 30 minutes each)

A2 Level

Core 3, 16.67% of A Level
Core 4, 16.67% of A Level
Mechanics 1, 16.67% of A Level

All assessed by written examination (1 hr 30 minutes each)

Entry requirements

GCSE Mathematics at Higher Tier, at grade B, or above. Grade A is highly desirable.

Future opportunities

This course will give students an excellent foundation for a Mathematics or related degree

Mathematical skills are transferable to work in industries such as Medicine, Dentistry, Finance, Economics, Accountancy, Law, Actuary, Architecture, Biochemistry and Science.
