Drama and Theatre Studies AS/A level (Edexcel) at Abbey Grange Church of England Academy

Course description

Drama & Theatre Studies is a course which looks at the creation of theatre, performing a scripted play as well as studying the work of published and historical playwrights.

The course has both practical and written elements.

Course content

 

Through 4 Units over 2 years you will:

Demonstrate the application of performance and/or production skills through the realisation of drama and theatre (studying plays, acting, directing).

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of practical/theoretical aspects of drama and theatre using appropriate terminology (study of practitioners/aspects of design).

Interpret plays from different periods/genres (devising and directing your own work).

Make critical and evaluative judgements of live theatre (theatre visits)

 

Entry requirements

All students applying for Advanced level courses at Abbey Grange C of E Academy should meet the following entry requirements. To study 4 subjects a student should have at least 7 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, with a minimum of grade 6 or above in their chosen subjects. To study 3 subjects a student should have at least 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, with a grade 6 or above in their chosen subjects.

Assessment

Units 2 and 4 are externally assessed. Unit 2 is a practical performance exam and Unit 4 is a written paper.

Unit 1 is marked by your teachers and is 50:50 written to practical approximately.

Unit 3 is assessed by the teachers and is both a practical unit with a performance and a supporting written evidence document.
