A Level: Dance at JC6: Hinckley Academy and John Cleveland Sixth Form Centre

Course description

Dance offers you many opportunities to discover and explore new forms of expression and movement. You will analyse professional works, applying all aspects of choreography, performance and dance practitioners. You will develop your own dance vocabulary through practical workshops and professional workshops and use it to create group and solo work. Dance theory will complement your practical work, enhancing your understanding and knowledge of all aspects of dance. The course will include opportunities to visit live performances, take part in workshops and work with professional dancers, choreographers or companies.

Course content

Consider Dance if:

  • You're at home when you're working and performing with others.
  • You're looking for a subject with a blend of practical and theoretical learning.

Entry requirements

  • Grade 5 or above in GCSE Dance OR equivalent dance experience.


Practical group and solo performances and written exams.

Dance combines well with a broad range of other subjects: with expressive subjects like Music and Drama, with PE and Biology or as a creative contrast to your other sixth form subjects.
