BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate Applied Science at Bournville College

Course description

This is a practical work related course introducing you to the three main sciences.

Course content

The units covered are:
Principles of Applied Science (externally assessed)
Chemistry and our Earth
Energy and our Universe
Biology and our Environment
Applications of Physical Science
Applications of Chemical Substances
Health applications of Life science
Scientific Skills (externally assessed)
The Living body
Investigating a Crime Scene
Chemical Analysis and Detection
Exploring our Universe

Entry requirements

Students will need to have one of the following:-
A BTEC Foundation Certificate in a related subject
At least 1 grade C GCSE
Related work experience
Other related level 1 or 2 qualifications
All students will also be required to attend and satisfactorily complete a formal induction period.

Assessment

Students are assessed through coursework which includes carrying out practicals, presentations, discussions, and two externally assessed units as exams. The grades are Pass, Merit and Distinction. Maths and English are part of the assignments.

Future opportunities

Students may be able to progress onto the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma (subject to grades and reference) or level 3 Certificate or Award in Applied Science in related science/technology areas. You may also be able to progress into employment such as a technician or lab assistant.
