Health and Social Care Level 1 BTEC Certificate at Redbridge College

Course description

This is a flexible one year Level 1 course, designed for students who:

  • Would like to try a Health and Social Care course, but are not fully decided on where they want to progress
  • Need to develop English, Maths and IT skills
  • Need to develop specific skills necessary to do a Level 2 course

Course content

Qualification Students will be entered for a Certificate in Vocational Studies, which as well as improving motivation and achievement, will develop knowledge, understanding and skills needed to prepare for employment. Students will cover units such as:

  • Self-Assessment
  • Career Progression
  • Working as a team

Vocational content The vocational content of the course is flexible and will respond to individual needs. Students will cover key components of a typical Level 1 programme, but after their first term, there will be opportunities to transfer to other vocational areas, for example Business, Hospitality & Catering, ICT, or Creative Arts. The course will also include:

  • Tutorial and Academic Review
  • Functional Skills English
  • Functional Skills Maths
  • Learning Support

Entry requirements

You will need to have achieved two GCSEs at Grade E. You will also need to have an interest in IT and be able to use a computer to a basic standard.


You'll be taught by our highly skilled team of staff who will pass on their years of industry knowledge and experience to you. You will be assessed by a mixture of assignments, observations and practical assessments.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of this course you will have the opportunity to further enhance your skills and knowledge by progressing on to a Level 2 course related to your chosen pathway.
