Fine Art A level at City and Islington College
Course description
Want to produce art in a variety of forms, and then gradually specialise in what you think you're best at? This intensive and fun two-year course introduces you to techniques in drawing, painting, print-making, mixed-media and sculpture. The focus is very much on getting you to establish your own style, your own themes and your own independence as an artist.
Course content
In addition to being introduced to major types and techniques of visual art, you will gradually be encouraged to develop a "theme" of your choice and to build a portfolio of work using any mixture of techniques.
Entry requirements
You must satisfy the general entry criteria for A Level courses, which are based on your GCSE results.
In addition, you should have gained a grade C or above in GCSE Art, although students will be assessed on individual merit.
International students:
Equivalent overseas qualifications will be considered.
IELTS 5.5 (with a minimum of 5.0 in each skill) or equivalent.
Assessment
Assessment is partly by portfolio (coursework) and partly by exam.
Future opportunities
Taken as one of three A Levels, this course can take you to university or other Higher Education institution. You can also progress to more vocational training, such as the BTEC Extended Diploma in Art and Design or a Media course.
