AS GCE Applied Business AQA (Double award) at Millbrook Academy

Course description



Unit 8: Business Planning. Students are given the opportunity to produce a structured business plan for a new product or service and to apply the skills and knowledge learnt through other units.

Unit 10 Promotion Activities.Students learn about how businesses select and deliver promotional activities. They will understand the advantages and disadvantages of different promotional activities

Unit 15: Financial Accounting for Managers. Students learn the main accounting concepts.  They learn how to draw up trial balances, balance sheets and profit and loss accounts.

Course content

Students will understand the nature of business, this is a vocational qualification that enables students to develop both a broad understanding of Applied Business principles e.g. Marketing, Finance, Human Resources and Administration.


Students will develop skills, knowledge and understanding of realistic business contexts through a variety of approaches from the theoretical to those with a clear practical emphasis, case studies and research

Entry requirements

At least 5 GCSE A*-C. Preferred A-C including English and Maths to gain access to AS.

A suitable grade at AS is required to reach the entry criteria to be accepted onto the A2 course.



Double Award students will take 6 units at AS and 6 units at A2.  There are two examined units each year
