Mathematics AS/A Level at Sandwich Technology School
This is a course designed for keen mathematicians; it will stretch you academically but on successful completion stand you in good stead for progression into numerous career paths from engineering to architecture. Pupils will study this course for nine lessons per fortnight and they will be expected to complete two lengthy homework tasks per week as well as additional independent work in their own time.
Pupils complete three modules in year one: Core 1, Core 2 and Statistics 1 and three modules in year two of the course: Core 3, Core 4 and Decision Mathematics 1
The course extends topics taught at GCSE such as algebra, surds, trigonometry, probability and statistical diagrams. It also introduces pupils to new topics including logarithms, exponentials, probability distributions and calculus. All pupils take three module exams in the June series of each year of the course.
At least 5 GCSE passes at grade 4 including Maths at grade 7 or higher
This course is assessed by examination only. There is no coursework component.
