Course description

The Level 2 Diploma in Photography is ideal for you if you are intrigued by photography and wish to explore, develop and test your creativity. This course will provide you with an exciting and challenging experience.

You will be given the opportunity to explore both traditional and digital technologies, and this course will enable you to develop:

  • An understanding of the value of photography as a tool for creative activity
  • A range of photographic skills appropriate to the support of creative activity
  • A critical and analytical approach to photographic practice
  • An awareness of the different contexts, approaches and disciplines of photography within creative activity.

Course content

Units you could study include:

  • Introduction to materials, processes and technical skills in art and design
  • Introduction to contextual research in art and design
  • Introduction to drawing skills
  • Introduction to communication skills in art and design
  • Solving 2d creative problems
  • Solving 3d creative problems
  • Solving time based problems
  • Developing and producing a personal project in art and design

This course is delivered through a mixture of theory and practical learning. You will develop skills in darkroom use, Photoshop, photography shoots etc.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade D or above, including Maths, English and an Art related subject.



You will be assessed through internal and external assessments.

Future opportunities

You could progress onto a Level 3 Diploma in Photography.
