Physics AS/A2 Level at Belfairs Academy

Course description

This course is aimed at students who have an enquiring mind and like asking how the world works. It covers everything from materials to medical science and the physics of the universe all the way down to quantum mechanics. We will be teaching the course through everyday examples and linking the Physics in with the real world.

Entry requirements

B grade in core sciences and additional science OR B grade in GCSE Physics. All students must additionally have B grade Mathematics.

Assessment

Year 12:

Core Physics 1 - 1½hrs

Core Physics 2 - 1½hrs

Year 13:

Advanced Physics 1 - 1¾hrs

Advanced Physics 2 - 1¾hrs

General and Practical Principles in Physics - 2¼hrs

There is no coursework. However, practical skills will be assessed by teachers and reported as a separate grade that does not affect the A Level grade.

Questions involving the use of mathematical skills will contribute 40% of the total assessment.

Future opportunities

Physics is an essential subject for science based careers and courses as well as other science related pathways such as engineering.
