Mathematics A Level at Blyth Academy
Students start to learn more specialised areas of Mathematics. They will extend and consolidate the areas of Maths they covered at GCSE and will also begin to study material new to them such as Mechanics which involves forces, motion and Newton’s laws. This course is complemented very well by A Level Physics but does not have to be studied alongside it.
What is the course content in Year 12?
3 Modules: Pure Core 1, Pure Core 2 and one Applied Module
What is the course content in Year 13?
3 Modules: Pure Core 3, Pure Core 4 and one Applied Module
What will I study?
• Algebra and Functions
• Sequences and Series
• Exponentials and Logarithms
- Integration Roots of Polynomials
Students are required to achieve a minimum of a B grade in GCSE Maths.
All course contents are assessed at the end of the year in a final examination for each module.
This course provides a suitable foundation for the study of Mathematics or related courses in Higher Education. Advanced Level Mathematics forms one the pathways into Engineering, Business, Accountancy and Law. With numbers, statistics and computers so much part of modern life, an A Level in Mathematics is one of the most generally useful qualifications.
