A Level Business *FEES PAYABLE* at Canford School

Course description

Business Studies is the subject of decision-making. By the end of the Lower Sixth, Business Studies pupils will have learned about the theoretical and practical nature of business and the business environment. Pupils learn about the functional areas of Finance, People, Operations and Marketing, how they are managed, and how they interact with each other. They will be challenged through case studies and asked to select, explain and justify their selection of the most appropriate course of action in any given context.

In the Upper Sixth, the material, like a business, develops a more strategic approach. Pupils are expected to develop answers that take account of the wide range of external influences that affect a modern firm, in the Strategic Management module. The Business Production module has a strong vocational slant and the pupils may be able to visit firms to see the application of theory as well as listening to visiting speakers from the business world. The Business Studies Society meets regularly for this purpose or for students to present and discuss topical business issues.

Whilst the course requires an ability to cope with arithmetic, the best candidates are those with an interest in business and an ability to put themselves in the shoes of real business people. Crucially, pupils must be willing to make decisions and explain their reasoning. It is a highly accessible course and it rewards hard work with good results.
