Electrical Installation Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 at PETROC

Course description

Bright sparks should consider this apprenticeship, which gives a complete grounding in the scientific and practical aspects of electrical installation work. Apprentices learn how to install, inspect, test and commission electrical installations.

Theory sessions will be taught in fully equipped classrooms with Smart Boards and other teaching and learning devices. Workshops will be used to deliver the practical training.

Course content

Attendance at college includes studying science based subjects to an advanced level and practical workshop based training alongside the understanding of the wiring and health and safety regulations. You will also need to undertake a practical competency assessment in the latter end of the apprenticeship.

Entry requirements

You must be employed in the relevant industry. You must be employed in the electrical industry in order to start an apprenticeship. The academic entry requirement for an advanced electrical apprenticeship is five GCSEs at grade C in Mathematics, English language, Science and two others, or successful completion of Level 2 Electrical course. Candidates will be assessed on interview.


A trained and skilled assessor will visit you in the workplace to monitor your progress and to assess your skills and knowledge. The assessor will give you targets to achieve until the next visit.

Future opportunities

On completion of this course you will be fully qualified, however you may wish to progress to a supervisory or management qualifications or a Foundation Degree.
