Sociology A Level at Alsop High School

Course description

Studying Sociology offers insights into social and cultural issues. It helps you develop a multi-perspective and critical approach to understanding issues around culture, identity, religion, crime, childhood and social power. 

Ask yourself the question, “Why have we developed like this? Poverty, ignorance, crime, justice... shouldn’t we have left them in the stone age?” Some of the topics you will be studying are families, education, beliefs in society, crime and deviance.

If you are interested in society and finding out how systems and institutions work, this course is for you.

Future opportunities

Sociology is a great choice of subject for people who want a career in social work, nursing or medicine. The subject is also useful in a number of other careers like marketing, advertising, PR, journalism, law, teaching, community work or probation.
