Sport (Outdoor Adventure) - BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at East Durham College

Course description

The course aims to develop the learners ability, competence and knowledge in a range of outdoor adventure activities in order to open career opportunities as an instructor or coach within the outdoor adventure industry. The course is related to sports and fitness and provides an opportunity to develop sporting and physical fitness by taking part in rock climbing, mountain biking, kayaking and expeditions.

Course content

Topics: 

The course covers Fitness Testing & Training,Personal Fitness Development, Leadership, Anatomy & Physiology, Practical Outdoor Adventure Sports Activities, Environmental Education, Land Based Outdoor Activities, Water Based Outdoor Activities and Sports Injuries.

 

Entry requirements

4 GCSE's Grade A to C including Maths & English

Assessment

The course is assessed through a combination of assignments, practical activities, research tasks and residentials. Work is assessed using a Pass, Merit, Distinction system.

Financial information

If you have been a UK resident for the past 3 years and are under the age of 19 on the 31st August, you will not usually need to pay any course fees.

Future opportunities

Possible career destinations after completing the Level 3 in Outdoor Adventure could be as an instructor in an Outdoor Centre or as preparation for entry to the Armed Forces. Successful completion will also allow learners to apply for Foundation Degree courses or an undergraduate programme.

Further information

After successful completing the course learners have the opportunity to progress to employment in the Outdoor Industry or Undergraduate study at University.
