Travel and Tourism A Level at Lady Lumley's School

Course description

The Travel and Tourism GCE is a highly relevant and valuable course which explores in detail an ever expanding industry which students are very likely to be already very much aware of and indeed part of in this area. The course allows students the opportunity to research, recommend and apply their skills to real life issues within the travel and tourism industry. Case Study material and a range of different destinations, tourism genres, and relevant organisations form the basis for their studies. This is a dynamic as well as demanding course which will be both enjoyable and thought provoking and the ability to critically examine job roles, strategies and current tourism issues will allow students to develop a genuine feel for a vitally important industry both now and in the future.

AS Unit 1 The Travel and Tourism Industry

AS Unit 2 The Travel and Tourism Customer.

AS Unit 3 Travel Destinations.

A2 Unit 9 Tourism Development

A2 Unit 10 The Guided Tour

A2 Unit 11 Event Management.

Entry requirements

Standard Sixth Form entry requirement. As work submitted is two thirds coursework assignment and one third examination based it is essential that students have high level analytical skills and an ability to review, evaluate and make recommendations.

Assessment

Assessment of the course is through external examination and internally through project work and individually researched reports.

Future opportunities

Following completion of this course, students will be well equipped to move onto a range of travel and tourism based courses at university as well as providing an invaluable preparation for working in the industry.

Further information

Students should be prepared to keep up to date with travel and tourism issues both locally, nationally and internationally through all forms of the media as part of their studies. Visits and guest speakers will also be incorporated into the course at appropriate times. Linking work experience with the course would also be useful as a learning tool.
