A Level Physical Education at Sawtry Village Academy

Course description

This excellent course offers the opportunity for sports enthusiasts to develop their knowledge of all aspects of PE and sport. The practical element involves choosing one sport which can be performed or coached, full sided. 


In Year 12, students will cover Applied Physiology, Skill Acquisition, Sports Psychology, and Society and Technology in Sport. In Year 13 these units are developed into study of Exercise and Physiology, Biomechanics and Sports Psychology. Students who are passionate, committed and motivated by sport will enjoy the challenge that A Level PE offers.

Entry requirements

Average points score of 42+ and at least grade C in GCSE English and maths. GCSE PE is not essential.

Future opportunities

Initially the PE course will lead to improvements in sports performance and fitness as students improve their all-round knowledge of various aspects of sports.


Students who are keen to take their study of PE and sport further can go on to a variety of courses at University which offer the opportunity to specialise in areas such as Sports Psychology or Sports Science.


PE is a useful subject for anyone considering a career in Physiotherapy, Sports Analysis, Sports Development, Coaching or PE teaching
