Fine Art A-level at Stratford Girls' Grammar School

Course description

Fine Art A-Level

Course content

The two year Edexcel GCE A-Level in Fine Art qualifications will provide a solid foundation for your progression to Foundation Courses and HE degrees, whether in a creative field or not.

Entry requirements

Grade A at GCSE in an Art and Design subject.

Assessment

Component 1: Personal Investigation

The progression within your coursework, including a mock examination project and exam, will form the basis of your predicted grade in September 2017 and all work must be handed in for final assessment at the end of January 2018. There is also a separate written critical analysis entitled ‘Personal Study’. This is a 3000 word piece of continuous prose worth 20% of the result of this component. This research project will be integrated into your practical investigations.

Component 2: Externally set assignment (ESA)

The examination paper is released on February 1st 2018 and accounts for 40% of your final mark. You will respond to a broad-based thematic starting point to encourage independence in developing ideas, intentions and response.

Financial information

A selection of Art media such as drawing pencils, oil pastels and paints for use at
home, sketchbook, an A1 size art portfolio (sketchbooks and portfolios available
through school). Cost of travel and entrance to galleries and exhibitions including
those independently organised.

Future opportunities

For careers in Art and Design, including Architecture, progression on to a
Foundation Art course is generally recommended. In some cases, application
directly to degree level is possible.

Further information

You will generate practical work, ideas and research from sources. You will
experiment with media, processes, develop and refine ideas, and present outcomes.

coursework portfolio. There will be a London Gallery trip in the first term for all, and
