AS / A Level - Religion, Ethics & Philosphy at Blackpool Sixth Form College

Course description

A level REP is a subject for people who are not afraid to ask big questions and interested in knowing what our deepest thinkers say about God, science and even the soul. Studying REP hones clarity of thought and expression as well as high-level analytical skills critical for highly skilled careers.

Course content


AS Religion, Ethics & Philosphy Year includes:

  • Religious and scientific views on miracles, the creation of the universe and the appearance of design in nature.
  • Ethical theories, the nature and persons and moral debates surrounding abortion and euthanasia.

A2 Religion, Ethics & Philosphy Year includes:

  • The problem of evil and suffering in a world created by God. Proving God’s existence by definition alone and the debate surrounding the nature and existence of the soul.
  • Religious and secular views on apocalyptic theories, the nature of human existence and life after death.

Entry requirements

A grade B or above in GCSE English is strongly recommended


100% exam in both AS and A2

Future opportunities

The course is an excellent step towards a Higher Education course in any reflective, analytic subject but is particularly relevant to a degree in Philosophy or Religious Studies. Many students go onto the teaching and caring professions, though the unique range of thinking skills developed are of use in any area of study or employment, even Science or Law for example.
