Art AS & A Level at Leek High School

Course description

The course builds on the skills, knowledge and understanding acquired at GCSE and although it would be helpful to have studied art at GCSE it is not a requirement.

AS – (Advanced Subsidiary) is the first half of A Level. It can be taken as a qualification in itself or as the first year of a two year A Level.

A2 – (Full A Level) is the second year of the course which leads to a full A Level.

Course content

AS – There are two units to this qualification.

1.    COURSEWORK PORTFOLIO = 60%
This can be a single sustained project or theme.
or
A number of smaller projects.

2.    CONTROLLED ASSIGNMENT = 40%
A 5 hour examination with 3 to 6 weeks preparation.

 

A2 – There are two units to this qualification.

1.    PERSONAL INVESTIGATION = 60%
One major project which shows:

  •   Planning and preparation work
  •   A related personal study of between 1000– 3000 words
  •   Final piece

2.    CONTROLLED ASSIGNMENT = 40%
A 15 hour examination with 3 to 6 weeks preparation
