Chemistry A Level at Bedford Academy

Course description

 

Chemistry is the study of matter; providing a deep insight into our physical world from how chemicals interact to create designer medicine, to cleaner fuels and nanotechnology. It explains the science behind the food, the functioning of the human body, archaeology and so much more.

 

Course content

You will study a wide range of topics in both organic and inorganic chemistry covering atomic structure, amount of substance, chemical bonding, the periodic table and the patterns of chemicals, energetics, kinetics, thermodynamics, equilibria, redox reactions, acids and bases, and nomenclature, whilst developing a range of investigative skills.

Assessment

A Level Chemistry will be assessed by written exams at the end of the course. Your practical skills will be assessed separately.

Future opportunities

An A Level in Chemistry is an essential pre-requisite for degree level courses in biochemistry, chemistry, dentistry, medicine, veterinary science.
