History at Cheam High School

Course description

History affects all of our lives. it is a well respected academic subject and useful to study as it helps build skills of analysis, evaluation, explanation and interpretation. History will enable you to study the past and to make judgements about key events. It is important that you have an enquiring mind, an interest in the past and its relevance to current affairs and the ability to communicate your ideas effectively.

Course content

Paper 1 – The American dream:
USA 1917-1996.
Paper 2 – Indian Independence
Paper 3 – The Tudors
Coursework – Historical Interpretation
Coursework at this level involves a high level of independent research and development of your written work. There will be a teacher taught section, but the majority of the time coursework will involve you researching and producing a coherent, well structured and well argued piece of work.

Entry requirements

GCSE grade B in English and/or History.
