Art, Design and Media UAL Diploma Level 1 at Doncaster College
The UAL Level 1 Diploma in Art, Design and Media is a one year course designed to give you an introduction to the skills and technologies you will encounter in the Creative Industries.
Students are not expected to have any previous knowledge or qualifications in these areas but should display an interest in pursuing an area of Art, Design or Media as a profession. This might be as a Fashion Designer, Graphic Designer, Furniture Designer, Artist, Animator or Photographer.
You will study Painting; Sculpture using a variety of materials; Printmaking; Ceramics, Textiles, Computer Aided Design and Photography. All activities will be underpinned by a core of drawing/visualisation skills.
Functional skills are a part of this program; English and Mathematics will be delivered throughout the year at Functional skills and/or GCSE's.
You must be prepared to work hard through the course and in your own time to improve your skills.
Assignments are set to explore various themes and lead up to an exhibition of your work at the end of the year.
You will study various components during which you will:
- Explore Visual Language in Art and design
- Explore Materials, Techniques and Processes
- Explore and Develop Art and Interactive Media Ideas
- Carry out projects in Art and Media.
- Learn how to present your work
The subjects will be varied and may include:
- Painting and Drawing
- 2D and 3D Design
- Digital Design/Interactive Media
The components listed will be taught using a number of practical workshops as well as traditional classroom sessions.
There are no entry requirements for this course.
All applicants must
- complete an initial assessment in Math’s and English
- attend an interview
- display a keen interest in Art and Media
- where possible, show evidence of that interest through a portfolio of drawings, paintings or photographs of your work
Functional skills and GCSE's are included throughout the course, you will be required to take an exam and/or complete a portfolio to achieve these.
The course is assessed continuously through varied types of assignment work, e.g. live briefs, presentations and projects with reviews at the end of each project.
There is a regular personal tutorial support system in which learners can discuss their work and any other problems.
After the Level 1 diploma you may progress on to one of our Level 2 Diplomas in Fashion, Photography, Graphics, Interactive Media and Animation or Art and Design.
The Level 1 Diploma qualification is equal to GCSE’s at grade D-G.
After further study there are job opportunities in the creative industries including graphic design, games designing, photography, textile design, fashion industry, creative designing and picture editing.
