BTEC Applied Science Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma at Cotswold Edge Sixth Form

Course description

This BTEC level 3 qualification is designed to provide a work related qualification through knowledge, understanding and skills of biology, chemistry and physics. This BTEC qualification is equivalent to one A level. The course builds on general scientific knowledge and skills as well as focusing on detailed aspects of science in the world of work and industry. This course will give learners the opportunity to acquire technical and employability skills, knowledge and understanding which are transferable and will enable individuals to meet changing circumstances in applied science practice.

Course content

Certificate Unit 1 Fundamentals of Science: 100% coursework Unit 2 Working in the Science Industry: 100% coursework Unit 4 Scientific Practical Techniques: 100% coursework.

Subsidiary Diploma A minimum of 30 credits from optional units tbc A similar format will follow in year 13 where a specialist pathway may be chosen. Pathways available include Forensic science, Medical Science, Applied Biology, Applied Chemistry, Applied Physics.

Entry requirements

C in Additional Science or BTEC certificate in Applied Science.

Assessment

100% coursework.

Future opportunities

This course will provide experience and knowledge for students who wish to continue studying, who want to follow a route to employment in the science industry or within organisations that use science such as; forensic science, technician, laboratory assistant, the police force, sport coach or paramedic. Students can tailor their options in year 2 to focus on a particular area of science. The BTEC Subsidiary Diploma will also contribute UCAS points for those who wish to study at Higher Education.
