Course Content
8 units of which 6 are mandatory and 3 are externally assessed

Mandatory Units
- Information Technology Systems (exam)
- Creating systems to Manage Information (practical work in controlled conditions)
- Using Social Media (coursework)
- Cyber Security (practical work in controlled conditions)
- Programming (coursework)
- IT Project Manager (coursework)

Optional/Specialist Units (all assessed via coursework) may include:
- Computer games development
- Website development
- Data modelling
- The Internet of Things

Entry requirements

GCSE Mathematics and English at grade 5 or above, Science at grade C or above required. You do not need to have studied ICT or Computing at GCSE level. Students also need to have a commitment to, and interest in the subject.

Assessment

58% Coursework in the form of presentations, practical and written work
27% Practical work produced in controlled conditions
15% Examination (2 hrs)

Future opportunities

Successful completion of the BTEC National Diploma is equivalent to two GCE A levels. BTEC Nationals are valued by employers and higher education. On completion of this course, students will have the knowledge and skills to progress to higher education in fields such as web development, IT support, software engineering or computer game design.

BTECs also provide students with qualifications and essential skills should they wish to transfer directly to employment.
