A Level (Linear) Biology at Chelmer Valley High School

Course description

Biology is the science of life and how living things work!

At A level, we follow the AQA GCE for AS and A2 courses.

The Biology Department takes a 3 day field trip to Orielton Field Study Centre, Pembrokeshire with Year 12 students to carry out investigations in ecology to enhance their practical skills and gain a wider appreciation for conservation.

Biology is a useful qualification for many courses and careers including biomedical engineering, nursing, healthcare of people and animals, optician, environmental health sciences, biotechnology, physiologist, natural resource management, wildlife biologist, archaeology, marine biology, forest management, agricultural industries, teacher training, ecology, fish farming, crop management, nutritionists and many more.

3 Organisms exchange substances with their environment

 4 Genetic information, variation and relationships between organisms

5 Energy transfers in and between organisms

6 Organisms respond to changes in their internal and external environments

 7 Genetics, populations, evolution and ecosystems 

8 The control of gene expression

      • You have arrived and should see the school's sign.


      From Braintree:

      • Take the A131 following signs to Broomfield Hospital.
      • At roundabout with A130, take the B1008 past The Walthams.
      • Follow B1008.
      • Turn right into Hospital Approach, at the roundabout near the Hospital.
      • Take first left into Court Road, and follow until you see the Chelmer Valley sign.
