Information Communication Technology (Double Option) at The Telford Langley School

Course description

Students will work woth basic database files, create graphics and make business documents. Students are also given the chance to create a sound file for use on the radio and working webpages based on a given multimedia and interactive theme. Students will also produce a short promotional video.

Course content

A Brief Outline of the Subject Content:

Students will complete a number of units, based on local and national business's. Some of the units offered are:

Unit 1: ICT for Business. In this unit students cover general ICT skills including, Spreadsheets, Databases, PowerPoint's and health and safety.

Unit22: Creating Sound. Students plan and make a sound file for use on radio.

Unit2: Website Design. Enables students to create working WebPages that are interactive and contain multimedia.

Unit23: Video Design. Students plan make and create a short video promoting a business.

Unit 4: Creating a Multimedia Presentation. Students plan and create a short multimedia presentation.

Unit 5: Desk Top Publishing. Students create a newsletter on a theme of their choice to a professional quality.

Unit 3: Digital imaging - plan and produce computer graphics. Students plan and create a logo design for a business.

Unit 20: Creating Animations. Students create a variety of animations for use on the web.

Unit 21: Creating computer graphics. Students create a variety of computer graphics for use on the web

The course does not have an exam and pupils' grades are determined by their portfolio of work. Success in creating portfolios requires a hardworking approach throughout years 10 and 11. It is expected that pupils will have achieved an A or B for effort in ICT in Year 9 as well as have anticipated National Curriculum level of 5 or above.

Assessment:

The unit is assessed by the submission of a portfolio. There are no exams.

Deadlines Units are submitted in the January and May in both year 10 and year 11

Future opportunities

Progression to Level 2, Intermediate Level, Higher Diploma Level 2, BTEC First, NVQ 2, Apprenticeship, NOCN Level 2, C&G Level 2 in related subjects
