Geography A Level at The Rochester Grammar School

Course description

Geography is a constantly changing discipline, reflecting, describing and explaining the dynamic world around us.  It examines the interaction between people and places and as such forms the bridge between the natural and human world and the science and the arts disciplines. 

Course content

For the two year A level qualification we intend to follow the Edexcel specification. We have chosen this specification because we feel it is relevant and topical as well as preparing students for Higher Education and employment.

Entry requirements

A GCSE grade 6 or above in Geography is required for entry onto this course.


In order to gain access to The RGS Sixth Form, students must obtain 5 GCSE grades at A*-B (5+) including English Language and Mathematics.

Future opportunities

A Level Geography is a highly regarded qualification by universities and employers, as it tests understanding and knowledge in numerous ways and is applicable in many related fields including Economics, History, Politics, Geology, Biology and Physics.  To quote a major employer: ' Geographers are stars in many respects, as they have a unique insight into the relationships between human and physical phenomena.'  Geography graduates end up in a diverse range of careers from Law, Consultancy and Investment Banking to Environmental Management, Insurance and Town Planning.
