Chemistry at Heston Community School

Course description

Chemistry A level incorporates motivating, contemporary Chemistry contexts and students will study aspects of Chemistry that are often in the media and affect their everyday lives.

Course content

Topics will include organic chemistry such as hydrocarbons, polymers, proteins and DNA structure, inorganic chemistry studying the periodic table and physical chemistry such as atom structure, kinetics, thermodynamics and bonding.

The course is built around a range of practical activities to increase students’ enjoyment and understanding of Chemistry and students will develop the skills needed to study Science at higher levels, such as data analysis, problem solving, numeracy and analysis of models.

Entry requirements

You must have achieved a Grade 5 in English and Grade 6 in Mathematics and an Attainment 8 GCSE score of 46 in the remaining subjects.  In addition to this minimum entry requirement, it is preferable for students to have achieved at least GCSE Grade 6 in any subject that they intend to study at A level.
