Applied ICT A Level at Lydiard Park Academy

Course description

You will enjoy this course if you would like to: ● Be able to select and use appropriate ICT tools and techniques to help you carry out investigations; capture and handle data; solve problems; make decisions; present and communicate information; ● Learn how to plan and manage projects and work effectively with others. This qualification has a broad appeal and develops students’ communication and decision-making skills. These are harnessed to build and maintain an e-portfolio as a showcase for their achievements.

Course content

AS: Unit 1: The Information Age (Portfolio) Unit 2: The Digital Economy (Portfolio) Unit 3: The Knowledge Worker (2 ½ Hour Practical Assessment)

A2: Unit 7: Using Database Software (10 Hour Practical Assessment) Unit 8: Managing ICT Projects (Portfolio) Unit 10: Using Multimedia Software (Portfolio)

Entry requirements

A successful student will: ● Have gained GCSE in ICT at grades A* to C or BTEC First for IT Practitioners at Distinction * or Distinction. ● Have an interest in developing the knowledge and skills you need to be a competent and informed ICT user and practitioner. ● Seek to use ICT in their everyday life as often as possible. ● Be interested in a career using technology.

Future opportunities

Successful completion could lead to a degree or BTEC Higher National Diploma in related subjects such as ICT, Computer Science, Information Systems, Multimedia, Software Engineering, Computer Networking, eBusiness and Information Management. You could also go on to work based training such as IT User/Practitioner or NVQs.
