Creative Media Production Level 2 Cambridge Technical Diploma at Alton College

Course description

This is a one year practical course which will begin to develop and train you in all stages of the media production process. Covering moving image and print based media, it is an assignment based course, working on different briefs covering a range of media products. You will learn to operate video cameras and edit on computers adding music and sound effects. You will also learn to record and edit audio files. You will work on computers to design and print media products.

Are you a creative, hands-on, energetic person? With a good eye for what looks good and what doesn’t? Do you like working on computers, with camera equipment and being part of a creative team? You will be expected to work more independently than you might have previously experienced and to cultivate a different relationship with college teachers. The course does require a real commitment from you as you may be filming outside of college hours and on location. You must be able to work responsibly as part of a crew, as the media industry relies on people with strong social skills.

Course content

Lessons are focused on developing the technical skills necessary to produce effective media products and an understanding of how the industry works. You might be working individually editing a video or researching a specific product, or working in pairs to complete a storyboard exploring narrative. You will also work in a small film crew and present your finished work to the class.  You will have class discussions with your teacher and analyse existing media products, before researching your own. You will also have the choice to attend field trips throughout the year to use your practical skills.
