Course description

The Edexcel BTEC level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Performing Arts (Dance) is a 60 credit and 360 guided learning hours (GLH) qualification that consists of two mandatory units plus optional units that provide for a combined total of 60 credits. It is broadly equivalent to one GCE A level.

Performing Arts (Dance) - 2 core units & 4 specialist units

Core units:

  • Performing to an Audience
  • Dance Performance

Specialist units:

These are chosen from a range which include:

  • Developing Classical Ballet Technique
  • Jazz Dance
  • Special Subject Investigation
  • Dance Appreciation

BTEC courses are not new courses. Many colleges have been offering them for a long time. Gradually more schools are making BTEC courses available— particularly in the area of Performing Arts. The benefits of BTEC courses are many. They provide a vocational learning program which provides a more direct introduction into careers in the Performing Arts sector. BTEC courses encourage the building of specialist skills & knowledge. There are considerable opportunities to work with professionals in the Performing Arts industry.

There will be an audition to assess suitability.

Future opportunities

All theatre-related performance careers e.g. dancer, actor or musician BTEC qualifications are recognised by Universities and Specialist Performing Arts Schools/Institutions so could lead to a course of Higher Education/study.
