Computer Science AQA AS Level at LBTS6 - Lilian Baylis Technology School

Course description

A Level Computing provides students with a broad technical knowledge and the ability to write their own programs and software in the Java Programming Language – one of the most popular languages used in industry today. 

Course content

At AS students study 2 units which enable them to explore the fundamental principles of Computing.

AS level Units:

Unit 1: Problem Solving, Programming, Data Representation and Data Structure

Unit 2: Computer systems and architecture

Entry requirements

Students require a minimum of 5 A* - B grades at GCSE, including a B grade or above in English, Mathematics and Science.


Unit 1: 2 hour on-screen examination
Unit 2: 1 hour written examination

Future opportunities

Computer programming is a necessary skill in a number of different disciplines – undergraduate students reading Physics, Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science must all learn how to program and a head-start can be vital!
