German at Palmer's College

Course description

With closer European integration, there has never been a more worthwhile time to improve your language skills, for leisure purposes, your career, or for progression to university. The AS course will provide you with the confidence, skills and knowledge to communicate meaningfully. An A2 qualification will provide you with advanced language skills for higher education or the workplace.

Course content

You will develop many new oral and written skills through the study of a range of current issues and cultural topics. You will also learn to apply and manipulate grammatical structures at a higher level using more sophisticated vocabulary and idioms.

You will have many opportunities to practice and improve examination techniques and we encourage you to develop personal links with native speakers and to participate in any trips offered.

Entry requirements

Minimum of four Cs and two Bs at GCSE. You will also need a grade B at GCSE in your chosen language.

Future opportunities

Many universities now offer pure Language degrees and/or combined courses with subjects such as Accountancy, Business, Law and Engineering. For those with an AS or A2 qualification, there are careers in business and secretarial fields, but there is a need for language skills in tourism, journalism, industry and education. Greater familiarity with a foreign language is a much sought-after skill.
