Advanced Manufacturing at Preston's College

Course description

This course is ideal if you are looking to start a career in engineering. It will provide you with a broad knowledge of modern engineering industries and specialist knowledge of advanced manufacturing designed to give you a clear pathway to the wide range of career opportunities available. This course is equivalent to three A-Levels and you can achieve up to 420 UCAS points depending on your grades.

Course content

You will study five core units:
– Health & Safety
– Communications
– Mathematics for Engineering
– Mechanical Principles & Applications
– Engineering Project.

You will also study a range of specialist and technical units including:
– Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) in Engineering.
– Engineering Drawing.
– Welding Technology.

Entry requirements

You need five GCSE’s (or equivalent) at A*-C grade. A GCSE at grade C in or above in science and maths and preferably English (a minimum grade D).

Assessment

You will complete projects to show your skills and this will be part of your assessment. You will also complete:
– Portfolio of Evidence
– Essays/Written Assignments
– In Class & Online Tests
– Practical Demonstrations
– Case Studies
– Class Activities/Discussions
– Presentations

Future opportunities

You can progress to the HNC in Engineering at Preston’s College or to other university level courses in a range of engineering subjects across the country. Alternatively you could seek employment in the industry as an Apprentice. There are a range of career opportunities including:
