ENGLISH LANGUAGE at The Weald School

Course description

Language plays a central role in every aspect of our daily lives. It’s what makes us human, after all! So, studying EnglishLanguage at AS will enable students to gain valuable insights into the ways in which language is used to communicate effectivelyin interpersonal relationships as well as in media and the workplace. At AS, students will explore varieties of spoken and written language as well as studying issues of language and gender, language and power and language and technology, including media texts. Coursework provides an excitingopportunity to develop creative and editorial writing skills, ideal for students interested in journalism and Media/communications. We follow AQA English Language Specification B.

Entry requirements

Be a confident and open-minded reader and a fluent, accurate writer with a basic knowledge of grammar.

Preferred minimum grades: C in English and C in English Literature

Have an interest in language issues, media, creative writing and independent investigation work.
