Drama and Theatre Studies A Level at St Michael's Church of England High School
Drama and Theatre Studies will give you the opportunity to explore the translation of plays from ‘page to stage’, to discover the success of live theatre productions and explore a range of theatrical styles and approaches to acting. You will immerse yourself in the world of performance through numerous theatre visits and will have the opportunity to visit the theatre capital of the world – Broadway, New York.
In year 1, you will have the opportunity to investigate theatre practice as a performer and as a member of the audience, to investigate and respond to a play and create practical work in a range of theatrical styles and genres from the perspective of a performer director and designer. In year 2, you will have opportunities to work individually and as part of a group devising an original performance, completing script work, improvisation, and will have opportunities to attend and analyse live performances. You will explore two different plays and respond to them from the perspective of a performer, director and designer.
GCSE Dance / Drama / Performing Arts – C (if studied)
A willingness to participate in practical activities is essential.
Examination – Unit 1 (AS) 60% 1.5 hours
Practical Performance – Unit 2 (AS) 40%
Examination – Unit 1 (A2) 60% 2 hours
Practical Performance – Unit 2 (A2) 40%
All assessment if via externally moderated practical performance and external examination following the AQA specification.
You can progress to university courses in Drama, Performance and related subjects or vocational courses at drama and theatre schools. Drama and Theatre studies is an excellent foundation for careers in drama, theatre, performance media or any career requiring high level communication skills.
