A Level Art & Design: Architecture at West Midlands Construction UTC

Course description

This course forms part of our technical training for Construction and the Application of IT in the Built Environment Specialism. Students will study the Art and Design A Level qualification from an Architectural or Interior Design perspective to develop their understanding of building design and develop their own creative skills in this field.

Course content

The Art & Design qualification will allow students to explore their creativity within the contexts of Architecture and Interior Design. Students will examine the work of a variety of architects and designers to illustrate a range of design styles and movements. Students will conduct a series of projects to create their own style and, uniquely, will have opportunities to create large scale models and even full scale structures as part of wider projects across the UTC.

Entry requirements

Students will require 5A*-C grades at GCSE including English and Maths. A Grade B GCSE in Art & Design, Graphic Design or Product Design is preferred but is not an essential requirement - students without such qualifications will be expected to discuss their application and experience before selecting this qualification.

Assessment is through a mix of portfolio submition and final project.

Future opportunities

This qualification would suit students who wish to work in Architecture, Interior Design or Landscape Design. It would also support students wishing to work in other aspects of the Built Environment.

Key information

  • More information
    • In our first year we will be housed at the Northwood Park campus. This will enable students to be directly involved in the Design and Build of our final site at the Springfield Campus in central Wolverhampton. Our students will use the construction of the final site as a learning experience and make actual Design and Build decisions that affect the layout and structure of the bespoke buildings.

The Northwood Park campus will be significantly refurbished and our timetable will be altered to accommodate the additional travel time required to reach the site.
