Btec Art & Design at St Michael's Catholic High School

Course description

Aims of the course:
Art and Design is a vast and appealing sector encompassing many areas such as fashion, fine art, photography, textiles and graphic design. But art and examinations rarely sit well together; it’s really no surprise that so many talented young artists and designers prefer to be judged by continual assessment rather than an end of course exam.
• With no exams, our BTECs are ideal for learners wishing to develop their skills and perhaps a career in art and design.
• BTECs allow learners to focus their creative instincts, whilst ensuring they are rewarded for their hard work.
• Continual assessment gives learners the opportunity to re-submit work to try and improve their grades, helping to keep the learner engaged and motivated throughout the course.

Course content:
The Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Art and Design (Graphic Design) is a 60-credit and 360-guided-learning-hour (GLH) qualification that consists of four mandatory units plus optional units that provide for a combined total of 60 credits. The course gives experience of working within relevant and real life frameworks, demonstrating clear links to industry and contemporary and historical cultures, societies and techniques. Students will produce a portfolio of work for each brief, demonstrating ideas and research from primary and contextual sources, and producing independent final outcomes.
